Kathy Griffin reveals she has lung cancer

Comedian Kathy Griffin, who in recent years shaved her head in solidarity with her sister who was undergoing chemotherapy — has announced she has lung cancer.

"I've got to tell you guys something. I have cancer," the actress wrote in a letter Monday posted on her Instagram account.

"I'm about to go into surgery to have half of my left lung removed," the letter continued. "Yes, I have lung cancer even though I've never smoked!"

Griffin's doctors "are very optimistic" that the cancer is stage one and found only in her left lung, she said.

The comedian’s prayer is that she will not have to undergo chemotherapy or radiation and hopes to "be up and running around as usual in a month or less," the letter noted.

She ended the note encouraging her half-million followers to stay up-to-date on their medical checkups. Lung cancer is the third most common cancer in the US, according to the CDC.

Let’s keep Kathy in our thoughts and prayers.
